Hey Hackers! Sentry & HackerNoon are super excited to host a Debugging Writing Contest! Here’s your chance to win money from a $1000 monthly prize pool. It could be any original story on #debugging or #monitoring.
Share your #debugging and #monitoring stories
To get your creative juices flowing, we bring you a writing prompt you can use to enter the contest:
Write about a time when you struggled (and later, triumphed!) to identify a bug or performance issue in your web application, mobile application, or game, and the steps you took to ultimately solve the problem.
Here are some ideas to help you get started:
- Do you remember those support tickets from customers calling in to report a problem?
- Was it right after a new microservice was launched?
- Were you notified by a monitoring tool?
- Did a problem arise from React or another Javascript framework?
- Were there inefficient database queries?

Can I submit more than one entry to the contest?
Of course, you can! Each story submission shall be considered a new entry into the writing contest.
How are the winners selected?
- Each month, we’ll take the top 10 story submissions that generated the most traffic.
- Those ten stories will be voted on by HackerNoon staff, and the 4 stories with the most votes will win.
Can I win more than one prize?
Yes! If you submit multiple stories, each has the chance to win.
Nominees are selected by total traffic each month and then voted on by our team. If 2 of your submitted stories that month are in the top 10 most-visited that month, both of them are eligible to win a prize. Meaning you could potentially bag both first and second place in the contest if 2 of your stories make it to the top 10!
If I win a prize in round 1, can I still submit another entry into round 2?
Absolutely! Please feel free to enter each round of the competition.
